On September 9, 2020, just before the new school year and at an important moment for children, parents and teachers, the 43rd regular meeting of the National Council for Child Protection (NCCP) was held. For the first time in the Council's history, the meeting was held online due to the ongoing epidemic situation in the country.


The meeting was opened by the Chairperson of the State Agency for Child Protection and Chairperson of the National Council for Child Protection, Dr. Eleonora Lilova, who expressed gratitude towards everybody working in the field of children's rights for their efforts. Especially in recent months, their high professionalism has been a rich source of information and a reference point during the unfamiliar situation for children, their parents and relatives.


Dr. Lilova presented to the participants and guests of the meeting welcoming speeches on behalf of Ms. Mariyana Nikolova - Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Demographic Policy and Minister of Tourism, as well as on behalf of Mr. Slavcho Atanasov, Chairman of the Committee on children, youth and sports matters at the National Assembly.


Ms. Denitsa Sacheva - Minister of Labor and Social Policy, formally addressed the members of the NCCP, emphasizing the importance of the event and emphasizing the policies and measures for socio-economic support of children and families, as well as students with special educational needs during the time of the pandemic.


Significant projects and programs for the children of Bulgaria were presented during the meeting. The priorities in the area of children's policies were outlined by Ms. Zornitsa Rusinova - Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, by Mr. Evgeni Stoyanov - Deputy Minister of Justice, by Mr. Nikolay Pavlov - Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as by representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science and others.


Dr. Hinkov presented activities of the National Center for Public Health and an analysis related to current policies and projects in the area of children’s health, taking into account the steady downward trend in child mortality in recent years.


Ms. Sanya Saranovic – UNICEF Deputy Representative for Bulgaria presented the “Back to School” program, which teaches children various social and learning skills in unusual situations, and Mr. Kalin Kamenov - Mayor of Vratsa and a representative of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria presented the activities of individual municipalities related to the implementation of anti-epidemic and socio-economic measures to protect the health and safety of Bulgarian children and families.


The participants in the meeting agreed on the idea of ​​holding a following meeting of the Council soon, during which to discuss the issues raised during the current meeting, as well as to present the activities of the other members of the NCCP.


At the end of the meeting, the Chairperson of the SACP and the NCCP, Dr. Lilova, emphasized the following: "With the work and efforts of institutions and organizations, we show once again that together we achieve more!"
