THE SACP CONSIDERED ON ITS OWN INITIATIVE THE ISSUE OF THE TRAGEDY WITH THE DROWNED CHILDREN IN BURGAS
The State Agency for Child Protection immediately sent a team for crisis intervention in Burgas. The agency considered the issue on its own initiative because of information in the media about the tragic incidents in which two children lost their lives in the sea. Within yesterday, the SACP contacted the local protection bodies and the prosecutor's office.
It was established that the younger child was 12 years old and together with his brother was accommodated in the Center for family-type accommodation for children without disabilities “Ronkali”, Burgas, some time ago after an act of violence with lethal outcome in the family. Two psychologists, who are experienced in crisis situations, work on site for the overcoming of the trauma from the tragedy with all the children accommodated in the center, as well as with the staff who take care of the children there around the clock.
Today, the SACP is conducting an inspection to determine how the child left the service, by whom he was accompanied during his walk outside the center and all the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is yet to be clarified how the safety and security of the children in the center are guaranteed, as well as to what extent the social service meets the requirements and standards. The SACP team will also provide methodological support to employees to overcome difficulties and problems.
The SACP sought the assistance of the Social Assistance Directorate in Burgas to support the family of the 17-year-old boy, who also lost his life in the sea.
Every year the Agency addresses all mayors in Bulgaria, in their capacity as child protection bodies, who have obligations to take measures to ensure the safety of children in their municipality, given the upcoming summer season and children's vacation, namely to ensure the safety of the water areas, reservoirs and others.
The State Agency for Child Protection expresses its condolences to the parents, relatives, friends, classmates and teachers of the children who died prematurely.
